Khalil Ibrahim Beidas (1936-2021)
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Khalil Ibrahim Beidas, Khelo, Papi. He resided in Etobicoke with his loving wife of 62 years, Maria, and was called home suddenly on May 26, 2021.
In July of 1936 he was born to Najla and Ibrahim Beidas in Jerusalem, Palestine. In 1952 his father, along with his wife and four children, Khalil, Aida, Nabil and Roueida, moved to Lebanon to join his brothers. Amongst many interests Khelo enjoyed studying at the American University of Beirut and grew into a charismatic, well-read gentleman who could engage anyone in a witty conversation. A good game of chess, a fine glass of scotch, a lovely meal, a clever joke and a lively debate were some of his many enjoyments.
As a young man Khalil, with great pride and energy, managed the Frankfurt branch of Intra Bank. During that time he met his beloved wife, Maria, on a business excursion to Vienna. Along came three children, Cindy, Jasmin and Ibrahim, and in 1968 they all embarked on a journey to Canada. Having a strong work ethic and solid business skills, he and Maria opened a small leather goods shop that grew into a thriving manufacturing company in downtown Toronto, employing many people and contributing strongly to the economy.
Life was not always easy for Khalil, struggling with the pain of an arthritic condition, but one would never know as he rarely complained. He will be remembered for his Witt, generosity, commitment, knowledge, elegance and humour. He loved hosting large gatherings where family, friends and neighbours of all ages were welcome. Khalil was light-hearted and could always be counted on to entertain with a funny story, great food, signature cocktails and lively dancing. He taught by example how important family is and was happiest amidst its bustle.
Khalil is predeceased by his parents, many dear aunts and uncles, and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great granddaughter, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He will be sorely missed!
