VANDERKOOY Leona (nee Atkinson)

July 21, 1937 – December 22, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Leona Vanderkooy announces her peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 85. Leona is predeceased by her loving husband, Peter. Loving mother of Ron (Wendy), Dan (Diane), Jeff, and Sherri (predeceased). Loving Nana of Amy, Jeremy, Travis, Daniel, Clinton, Tonya, Tosha, Ashley, Jake, Chad and many great grandchildren. She will be remembered and missed dearly by her sister Ruth (Jim Masters), her many nieces and nephews and former daughter in-laws Karen and Loreen and son-in-law Guy. Leona was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Luella Atkinson, siblings Helen, Harold and Ray.

Leona was born in Stouffville and spent her youth in Bethesda where she met Peter and they began raising their family. Since that time, their journey together brought them to Barrie in 1989 where they resided for the rest of their lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Leona can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Canadian Cancer Society.

Cremation arrangements have been made and a graveside service has been scheduled for June 2, 2023 at 2 pm at Barrie Union Cemetery..
