It’s with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lester Joseph (LJ) Zimmel on Friday April 29, 2022, at the age of 84 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Les is lovingly remembered by his devoted partner Tracy Klose and children Iva (Brad), Shelley, Brad (Monica), Todd (Ann). Dear Grandfather to Davis, Lucas, Paige (Joe) and Scott.
He will be forever remembered by his sisters and brother Annette (Richard), Carol (the late Harry), Roseanne and Jim (Pat).
Les was predeceased by his parents Francis and Clarence Zimmel, siblings Alan, Vernon, Patricia and ex-wife Aileen Zimmel.
Les was born in Killam Alberta, grew up in Strome, Barrhead, Wetaskiwin and Edmonton.
Les was a graduate of University of Alberta with a degree in Geology. He excelled as a member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team.
After graduating he began his career at Sperry Univac which after several promotions into management took him to Mississauga where he settled with his family.
In later years Les started his own finance company and worked in the financial industry until his retirement.
Les was a vibrant man, always the life of the party. He loved meeting people and everyone enjoyed his company. He was a lover of all sports but especially golf and was an active member at Credit Valley, Trafalgar and finally at Weston Golf & Country Club.
At Les’ wish cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at One Kenton Place for the extraordinary care and compassion they gave Les and family throughout his final journey.
