In Loving Memory
Lewis Gordon (Duke) Marsh. December 23, 1951 – November 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Lewis Gordon Marsh. Lewis passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, November 18th at Humber River Hospital, after a long battle with kidney disease.
Devoted husband for over 50 years to Anna Marsh (nee McNeil). Loving father to Melanie (Michael) Duda, Sherry Marsh, and Sara (Paul) Estrada. Grandfather to Chelsea, Hailey, William, Sawyer, Antonio and Sophia, and great grandfather to Julius and Colin-James. Brother to Valerie Russell, David (Karen), Wayne (Judy), Peggy Marsh, Lorna (Paul) MacLean and Uncle to numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Margaret Marsh (nee Rigby) and brothers Barry, Derek and Christopher.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Lewis (Duke) moved to Ontario in his late teens, where he met the love of his life, Anna. They returned to Cape Breton, married and after several years, went back to Ontario to raise their family. Cape Breton was always home to Duke; it was his happy place. He frequently visited “down home” to spend time with his family and friends. Duke was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting, and playing softball, darts and pool. He was also very happy to have meaningful conversations and share great stories with everyone he knew.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful nurses in the dialysis unit at Humber River Hospital, who cared for Lewis for so many years and a special thank you to the medical personnel on 9 East for making his journey a comfortable one. Your care and kindness are greatly appreciated.
A memorial honouring Lewis’ life will be held on Tuesday, November 30th from 5-8 p.m., with a special tribute starting at 6:30 p.m., at Chinguacousy Park Ski Chalet in Brampton. Due to Covid restrictions, the service will be limited to family and friends of Lewis and Anna. Proof of vaccination will be required for visitors 12 years of age and older.
Location for the memorial service is Chinguacousy Park Ski Chalet
(the black building on the corner of Bramalea Rd & Central Park)
2nd floor, in the Bramalea Place Lounge.
9050 Bramalea Road, Brampton, ON. L6S 6G7.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to The Kidney Foundation in Lewis’ name.
His Journey’s Just Begun
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much
