Lina, beloved Mom of Bryan and Muriel, after a courageous 2-year struggle with cancer, passed away peacefully in Ottawa Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021.
Born Lina Yolande Harvey in Kénogami, P.Q. to Paul & Florida (née Cormier) Harvey, both deceased and originally from Quebec's Magdalen Islands, eldest daughter amongst 8 siblings: Roger (Madeleine) of Red Rock, ON, both deceased, Leo (deceased) (Dreena) of Sarnia, ON, Gus (Shirley) of Kitchener, ON, Guy (Mary Ann, deceased) and Gaby (Lorraine) of Thunder Bay, ON, Lil Briggs (Ed, deceased), and Ghes Bailey (Wayne) all of Port Alberni, B.C.
Predeceased in 1976 by her husband Alfred (Fred) Gallant, also originally from the Magdalen Islands, lived in paper mill towns of Red Rock, ON, St. John, N.B. and Chandler, P.Q. Also predeceased by infant son Paul Verney in 1965.
Survived by only one of 12 siblings of Fred, Andre (Faye, deceased) Gallant of Val Caron, ON, son-in-law Don Wright and grandchildren Kimberly of Ottawa, and Matt (Marilou) of Vancouver, B.C., and by many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Quebec, and B.C.
Hard work kept Lina fit into her mid-80's. She missed golfing which she had taken up in Chandler, winning a tournament or 2, and needlepoint, cut short by arthritis in her fingers. Her family will always treasure her framed work. She loved music of all kinds, old and new, and would often be caught dancing in her chair! She read every Danielle Steele novel she could. She also loved to bake, especially at Xmas time. Next to her immense love for her family, Lina's favorite thing in the world was chocolate - a true chocoholic!
She will be so missed.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Her ashes will be buried at a later date in Quebec City with her husband.
In her memory, donations can be made to the cause of your choice.
