Linda Babb

Linda Babb (nee Dudley) passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76 on January 17, 2022. She had a slightly nomadic life; born in Scotland, spent her teenage years in Nova Scotia and attended Dalhousie University, moved to Birmingham, UK for more college, married and moved to Sheffield, left Sheffield for Victoria, BC - where she spent most of her life. At the age of 65, she bought a motorhome - despite not being a camper - packed up her cats, and drove across Canada to PEI before settling in Niagara Falls to be closer to her beloved daughter Mairi (Matt).

She was wise, insightful, kind, inspiring, fearless, spiritual, passionate, boldly independent, generous of spirit, brave, stubborn, loving, ridiculous, complicated, hilarious, resilient, devoted to her animals and her ferals, a cheese fanatic, a great dreamer, an activist, a warrior for justice and decency in politics, a teacher, a student, a motivator, a brilliant writer and speaker, and the best hugger in the world.

Linda loved meeting new people and debating complicated ideas. Elections and political campaigns were literally more exciting for her than Christmas. Recently, she established The People's Platform - a nonpartisan initiative on Facebook that is intended to transform how elections are done. Through it, Niagara Falls residents are identifying, discussing, and prioritizing what they want for the future of their city – before electing its leadership. It is a space for discussion that supports a more human-scale form of politics. It energized and brought her so much joy to see people engage in politics in new, meaningful ways. She wore out her laptop keys with her online discussions and moderator duties.

She will be missed for her pastry, the craft and love she put into her knitting and sewing, her epic stories, her endless cheerleading, her forgiveness, her spirit, her optimism, her intelligence, and most of all, her smile that radiated enough joy to light the world.

Due to covid, a memorial will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the animal rescue of your choice.
