Lorie Hannelore Thea Ritz

Lorie Hannelore Thea Ritz (Omi) peacefully passed away on the evening of April 14th, 2023 at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Lorie was born in Bremen, Germany on January 23rd, 1929 to her mother and father Johanna and Friedrich Schlake. Lorie was raised and lived in Bremen, Germany eventually working at the BSF. In May of 1953 her and her future husband Charles (Carl Otto) Ritz immigrated to Toronto, Canada. Charles and Lorie married on February 6th, 1954, where soon after Lorie completed her Hairdresser License in 1955, eventually running her own salon. Omi, was always a woman ahead of the times. In September of 1962 they welcomed their only child, Yvonne. Lorie loved dog training, gardening, the ballet, opera music, reading, crosswords, tennis, golf and a good glass of red wine. She is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Sean), granddaughters Sarah, Jamie (Matt), Alex, great grand daughter Harper and her brother Heino. As the matriarch of the family, Omi was so deeply loved and admired by all those who knew her and she will be missed immensely.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Omi on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at her home, 60 Satok Terrace, West Hill, Ontario, M1E 3N5 starting at 1:00pm.
