It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lucia Masci on June 4, 2022, in her 91st year. She was born in Pratola Peligna, Abruzzo, Italy to the late Venanzio and the late Serafina (Daddario) Giannantonio. She was married to the late Arthur Masci. She sailed on the Queen Frederica in 1962 and landed at the Halifax harbor to begin her new adventure in Canada. She leaves behind her beloved children Adele (Todd) and Helen. She was predeceased by her brothers Nicola, Fernando, Loreto and Attilio. She also leaves behind many relatives in Canada, the USA and Italy. The family would like to thank the palliative care team at the Ottawa Civic hospital for their excellent care. Also a big thanks to Garden Terrace where she will always be fondly remembered as “mama mia”. A memorial service will be held Saturday July, 9th at 11:00 at the Glen Cairn United Church 140 Abbeyhill Dr, Kanata. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a charitable donation in her memory, please consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Kidney Foundation.
My mother also loved to sing all of the time and tell stories about her village in Italy. She went to school in Italy at a young age to become a tailor and was very successful, making the most beautiful suits and dresses. Lucia was always the family’s go-to for repairing clothing or creating something special to wear.
She was extremely social and loved working outside in her garden. We’re going to miss her tomatoes.
