With family by her side, Mabel Sheila Lavers passed in peace on November 20, 2024, at the honourable age of 100.
Mabel is remembered by her 3 daughters (Debbie, Sandra, and Denise), 6 grandchildren (Chelsea, Brittany, Daniel, Stacey, Angie, and Tammy), and 7 great-grandchildren (Maya, Mekkah, Charlie, Ellie, Keegan, Paige, and Devon). She joins her loving husband Russell, her sisters Clara and Alice, her brothers Geoff and Jack, and her parents, Florence and Frederick.
Mabel was born in Esh Winning in County Durham, England, and spent her childhood in Hebden Bridge. She served as a nurse during World War II, landing in Plymouth during the Plymouth Blitz, where she met Russell at a local dance. They married in 1947 and built a family and life together in Plymouth before eventually moving to Canada in 1978.
Our Mum, Grannie, and Great-Grannie is remembered for her kindness, sparkling blue eyes, sharp wit, warm smile, and delicious roast dinners. She loved bingo, knitting, and was a loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and unconditional love. We are so proud to be her family and will carry her in our hearts forever.
Our sincere gratitude to Nadene and Pat, who went above and beyond in their care for our Mabel, which allowed her to live in her own home until April of this year. Heartfelt thanks as well to the PSWs, nurses, and support staff at AgeCare London who lovingly cared for Mabel in her final months.
A service will be held in the new year to honour both Mabel and Russell together; details will be provided when arrangements have been finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted in Mabel and Russell’s names to Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre.

Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet
again some sunny day..."
