Mahmud Haniff Garda-Sahib

February 23, 1967 — October 4, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mahmud Haniff Garda Sahib, a loving husband and father, who is survived by his wife Kauthar and daughter Zeinab.

Mahmud was born in Mauritius where he grew up with his four siblings. He completed a certificate in Electrical Engineering with City and Guilds in 1990. Kauthar and Mahmud married 29 years ago on April 20 in 1994 and had a beautiful daughter Zeinab. Later in 2004, the family moved and settled in Canada.

Mahmud contributed to the building of several schools at CSC MonAvenir and Peel District School Board. He showed strong work ethics throughout his career and built strong and lasting relationship with his colleagues.

Avid nature hiker, Mahmud enjoyed going on walks with his wife and taking road trips with family and friends. Having led a highly active life, he was also a sport lover, including football and ping pong. When he was not outdoors, he would spend time with cousin and friends playing board games and listening to music.

Among friends and family, Mahmud was known for his kindness and how he was always ready to go the extra mile to help others. With his wife, they hosted friends, sharing dinners and creating lifelong memories. He will be remembered for his bright smile and contagious laughter.

When it comes to vacation, Mahmud’s favorite place to travel to is none other than his birthplace, Mauritius. Every time he went back, he would spend his time at the beach, reconnect with the sea, family and friends like no time had passed. He was environmentally conscious and wanted to leave the planet green for future generations.

Above all, Mahmud loves his family. Zeinab and Kauthar were the love and pride of his life.

The special bond that he shared with Zeinab is his love for music, especially Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, and Pink Floyd.

As we bid Mahmud au revoir, we will remember his humanity, kindness, and laughter. Mahmud had a big heart, was always ready to help and go the extra mile for others.

His memory and smile will forever live on through the lives that he touched during his time with us.
