Manuel Pereira passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the age of 94.
Manuel was born in A Pobra de Trives, Galicia, Spain on September 15, 1927, to parents José Manuel and Milagros. At an early age, Manuel began cabinetmaking, which instilled in him a passion for carpentry that would follow him throughout his career. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Rosaura, while working in Monforte de Lemos. They were married on January 13, 1952, in San Julian de Eire. Four years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Milagros. Wanting to better the lives of his young family, Manuel turned to Canada in search of greater opportunities. On a cold January day in 1958, Manuel touched down in Ottawa, the place he would call home for 64 years. Over the next decade, Manuel continued to work as a carpenter while their family grew to include son José Manuel and daughter Beatriz. In 1967, with the support of Rosaura, Manuel decided to take a leap of faith and open up a construction business named after his beloved mother. For over 30 years, Yanez Construction was his pride and joy. Despite his hectic work schedule, Manuel always made sure to be present for every milestone in his children’s—and later grandchildren’s—lives. After retirement, Manuel returned to his first love of cabinetmaking, building every desk, headboard, coffee table, and dresser any family and friend could want for. When he wasn’t in the garage working on one of his many projects, Manuel could be found sharing a laugh with a coffee and churros in hand. He will be remembered as a proud family patriarch who worked hard and loved his family harder. We will miss him deeply.
In addition to his wife Rosaura and their three children, Milagros (Jésus), José Manuel (Carole), and Beatriz (César), Manuel is also survived by his sister Palmira (Galan), his five grandchildren, José Manuel (Lesly), Andrés, David (Christine), Sandra, and Andréa, his two great-grandsons, Mateo and Theodore, and his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral to be held in Pantón, Lugo, Spain at a later date.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the team at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus.
