Margaret McCarthy passed away unexpectedly at the Royal Victoria Hospital on Thursday, February 16, hours after reaching the amazing age of 93. Predeceased by her husband Pat of 57 years in 2004. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons and daughter-in-law: Patrick, and Gordon and his wife Heather. Margaret was fortunate to live to see the marriage of her two granddaughters whom she dearly loved: Rachel to Jason Leblanc and Lauren to Alex Jursa. Rachel and Jason thrilled Margaret with the birth of her first great grandchild, Brynn Marie, a short 10 months ago.
Margaret was known by her friends and family as a warm, friendly, and caring person that had a love of life and time for everyone. She fell in love with the art of quilting while living in Minden Ontario, and it became a passion that filled the many hours of her day while living in Barrie. She made many extraordinary friends through her association with other like minded quilters. In the last few years Margaret overcame several challenges that life presented her with, and the many projects that remain incomplete reflect a life unfinished.
Friends and family are invited to an informal visitation to share memories and celebrate Margaret’s wonderful life on Thursday March 2 between 6 and 9 p.m. at Basic Funerals formerly Jennett Memorial Centre located at 152 Bradford Street in Barrie, Ontario. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to recognize Margaret’s life and passing are welcome to do so through flowers, a donation to Royal Victoria Hospital Barrie or SickKids Hospital Foundation.
