Peggy McLeod passed away peacefully on June 9th in her 91st year. Born in 1931, she was the oldest child of Frederick and Velma (née Fensom) Knight. She is survived by 6 children {Lyn (Bill), Jean (Ron), Rod (Karen), Rob (Cathie), Bill (Joan), Evelyn (Dan)}, her daughter-in-law Roxanne and her sister Shirley (John) Connor. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Don, son Ron (Roxanne), brother Neil (Marjorie) and infant son Donald. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law Margaret (Dave) Stewart and her brother-in-laws Graham (Lois) McLeod and Ted (Daphnee) Barron. Peggy was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
As a native of Sudbury, Peggy quickly adapted to small-town living and the busy life of dairy farming when she moved to the Douglas area in 1958 with her then 3 young children. Peggy always made time to volunteer and was very involved with the church and women’s institute. She was a beloved member of the community and was never one to say no when help was needed. Peggy loved watching her grandchildren play sports and was also known to brag about their varied accomplishments! She enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world when in good health and made many trips out west to visit her children and grandchildren over the years. As a historian Peggy worked tirelessly to document both her and her husband’s family history in great detail going back many generations including photos and stories shared orally from ancestors. She left a legacy of historical information to be enjoyed by many. In her memory, donations to your favourite local charity would be appreciated.
A memorial church service will be scheduled at a later date. Thank you to the amazing staff of Caressant Care (retirement and nursing side) in Cobden for their outstanding care of our mother during the past six years.
