Maria Carolina Del Valle Floyd; May 12, 1966 – July 19, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Carolina after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Beloved wife of Hugh. Loved and remembered by sons Sebastian and Tristan, mother Ines Alvis de Del Valle, father Galo Del Valle Nieto, brother Juan Carlos Del Valle and his wife Treava Pegg. Carolina was strong, brave and resolute in her battle with this disease and always managed a smile and a thank you for the many family, friends and caregivers that in countless ways were an essential part of her journey. A special thanks to the loving and devoted home care provided by Ana, Bessie, Karen, Krystal, Mitra, Monica, Nicole, Tanya, Tara and Teresa.
Carolina was born in Bogota, Colombia and called Canada her home in 1991. Carolina worked tirelessly in search of an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and persevered in the promotion and advocation of early intervention strategies for Sebastian and other children. In many ways, she and her “posse” of educated and informed parents guided and advised Special Education in York Region. For most of her career she worked with the team at the former Health Recovery Group where she assisted in the rehabilitation of victims of motor vehicle and workplace accidents. Such work was important to her and she kept at it until the disease made it impossible for her to carry on.
Carolina believed we are all connected and spent many hours studying other faiths. She believed that all souls have a purpose and that each soul may proceed through multiple lifetimes before being “at one” with the Universe. Believing that there is goodness in all, Carolina was a firm believer in the healing power of positive thoughts and energy. She was accepting of all who came into her life.
As per Carolina’s wishes there is to be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life Ceremony is planned soon.
If desired, a donation in her memory can be made to Kerry’s Place Autism Services, March of Dimes Canada or ALS Society of Canada.
