Maria (Lopes) Santos

Maria C Santos passed peacefully at the age of 79 on March 24th, 2021 in Toronto after battling with Alzheimer’s disease for over a decade. She was the beloved wife of predeceased José. Born December 24th in Peniche, Portugal, Maria was sister to Augusta and the late Fernanda. She is remembered by her daughters Luisa, Carla and Gina; her grandchildren Steven, Mathew, Michael, Jamie, Stephanie, Adrian, and Jordan; her great-grandchildren Natalia and Catalina, as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins. Maria was a strong, dedicated, generous and passionate woman. She always found the beauty in her surroundings and had the courage to speak with a steady voice. She will be remembered for her bright and silly sense of humour, infectious laugh, her delicious home cooked meals, and her undeniable joyful energy. She loved dancing, gardening, and was a gifted crochetiere. A fierce worker, Maria tackled every obstacle directly and bravely, and her warm energy was magnetic to the people around her. She will be remembered as she was at her liveliest: energetic, full of love, joy and vitality. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Maria’s family gives a special thanks to the nurses who cared for her at Lakeside LTCC. Her legacy lives on through the memories she created and the lives that she shaped.
