LIANOS, Marigoula

With profound sadness we announce that Mary ‘Marigoula' Lianos (nee Lazarou) passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at North York General Hospital after a brief, but valiant, battle with lymphoma.

Marigoula was predeceased by her beloved husband Christos in 2015 and is survived by her loving children Tessy (Tom), and John (Mary). Marigoula will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Terry (Maria), Elaina (Dimitri), Ileena, and Christina. She was also blessed to have welcomed her three great-granddaughters Anastasia, Evangelia, and Fay who loved her dearly.

Born in Lada (Messinia, Greece), Marigoula came to Canada in the 1950s and worked as a seamstress for many years. While her career displayed her incredible skillset her passions lied in gardening with her late husband and making delicious meals with vegetables that came directly from their garden. If she was not gardening, her annual summer trips to Greece with her husband, children, and grandchildren were spent in their summer home in Papadianika (Laconia, Greece) while also spending time in Lada with her family.
Her sudden passing leaves her many friends, family, koumparoi, sympetheroi, and neighbours shocked as her absence will be felt greatly by all those who loved her. Her faith gave her strength and inspiration to live independently but also on her own terms. The “parea” of her close knit neighbourhood kept her going each and every day. Our mom has gone to meet many of our loved ones but, most of all, she has gone to meet our dad, Christos, her άνδρα and γερό, whom she missed dearly over the past 6 years. The family thanks everyone for the outpouring of support, phone calls and messages during this difficult time which is undoubtedly a testament to how loved and respected Marigoula was in the community.

Funeral will be held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 3840 Finch Ave. E., on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at 11 am. Prior to the funeral service there will be a visitation starting at 10am. Due to COVID regulations this is a private event, by invitation only.
