Marites Furigay Fernandez

Marites Furigay Fernandez passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, at the Trillium Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 61. She was surrounded by the love and prayers of her family as she departed this world due to heart failure.

Marites was born in Basilan, Philippines, and her journey took her across the globe. Through her profession as a nurse, she touched the lives of many. Her career spanned countries, including the Middle East, New Zealand, and finally, Canada, where she made Mississauga her home. Her dedication to her patients and profession was unwavering, making her a beloved figure in the lives of those she cared for.

She is survived by her brother, Ulysses Furigay Fernandez, whom she cherished deeply. Marites was a pillar of strength for her family, especially after the passing of their parents, Dionisio and Gloria Furigay-Fernandez. Her love and commitment to her family were unparalleled, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to know her.

Marites had a zest for life that was evident in her love for travel. She found joy in exploring new places and immersing herself in different cultures, a passion that enriched her life and those around her. Her adventures were a testament to her spirit and desire to experience the world's beauty.

She maintained lifelong friendships with her college friends, cherishing every reunion and keeping in touch despite the distance. These bonds were a testament to her warmth and the lasting impact she had on the lives of her friends.

Marites was a woman of quiet strength, endless generosity, and boundless love. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on September 10, 2024, at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at 2:00 PM, at the 2nd Floor Parish Hall of St Francis Xavier Church, located at 5650 Mavis Rd. Mississauga, Ontario. Marites will be laid to rest in Basilan, Philippines, where she will be remembered and celebrated by family and friends.
