Walker, Marjorie Kathleen, “Kay” age 91, formerly of Carseland Alberta passed away October 24, 2020.
She was the second daughter of Don and Kay McKinnon, ranching 80 miles (129km) down the Bow River from Calgary. Born 17 August 1929, she had a happy childhood despite the Great Depression of the 1930s. Her family grew their own food with water of the river or irrigation ditch. She won a 4H prize to attend a summer program at the Olds School of Agriculture, later graduating from there with two awards and a scholarship to the University of Alberta. She married Lesley Gordon (Les) Benjamin in 1950 and had three children, Shelley, Ruth and Gordon. Kay was a highly skilled sewer, award winning potter, craftsperson and painter. Kay was also a life-long volunteer, receiving the Caring Canadian medal from the Governor General in 2004. Kay married William Edward (Bill) Walker in 1978. She was predeceased by Bill (1995), brothers Ronald Allen (2013) and Donald Keith (2001), sister Helen Adelle Cole (2003), daughter Shelley (1977) and Bill’s Son John (2005). She is survived by daughter Ruth (Don) Kirkpatrick, son Gordon (Brenda) Benjamin, Bill’s son Gus (Donna) Walker, daughter Lois (Judd deceased), Daughter-in-law Sharon, and grandchildren Keith and John Kirkpatrick, Blair and Michael Benjamin, Gus’ children Jennifer and Tim, Lois’ children Tara, Holly and Jason, and John’s son Ryan. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Muriel (Keith) and Elaine (Ron) and, life-long best friend and first cousin Ruth Storey.
