CHRISTOPOULOS Martha

Much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Martha Christopoulos passed away on August 8th, 2021 at the amazing age of 94 years old. Born on October 26th, 1926 in Lefkohoma, Lakonia, Greece, she was the youngest of three to Georgos and Dimitra Makris. She survived the depression, World War II, and the ensuing civil war. She married her wonderful husband (the late Panagiotis [Peter]) and had two sons John and George. She and her two young sons followed her husband to Canada in December 1960 and settled in Toronto. She will be missed by many, many relatives, and friends, but especially by her sons, John (Ourania) and George (Linda), her grandchildren, Joanna (Peter), Peter (Kelly), Melissa (Michael), Deanna (Dimitri), and Peter, as well as her great-grandchildren George, Ourania, John, Sophia, and Emma. Martha was very well loved by all who knew her and will be remembered fondly by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and numerous friends.

Martha was a simple person who lived by her Greek Orthodox and Lakonian values, which were deeply ingrained into her soul. It is these values that she and her beloved husband Panagiotis passed on to their children and grandchildren. She and her husband worked hard to raise their family in their adopted country, which they deeply loved, but never forgot their humble roots. They were so blessed to see their sons married and prosper, and to have children of their own. They loved their grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them especially at Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. Martha was also blessed to see five great grandchildren and adored them all. In retirement, Martha and Panagiotis spent winter in their beloved “second” home in Clearwater, Florida. Martha was a social person, and along with her husband, was always eager to meet new people who would often remain lifelong friends. She and her beloved husband were caring people who extended their love and support to everyone around them. Her legacy and their legacy will live on in our minds and in our hearts.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the staff of the Hellenic Home in Scarborough. Their care and concern for Martha greatly enhanced her quality of life for the short time she was there. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Visitation will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Thorncliffe Park Dr, East York, ON M4H 1H8, (416) 425-2485, on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 10-12 am. The funeral service will follow. The internment will be at Pine Hills cemetery for the immediate family only. On behalf of the family, we would kindly ask you respect the privacy for the burial.
