MARTHA LOUISE HAINES (nee SANDOMIRSKY) It is with heavy hearts that family and friends announce that Martha Louise Haines died unexpectedly on June 27, 2015 in Toronto, age 56. Martha is survived by her daughter Anna, her brother Michael Sandomirsky of Edmonton Alberta, a nephew and niece and many friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Diane Sandomirsky. Martha grew up in London, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta. She achieved much in her life including degrees from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. Martha had a successful career in information technology, specializing in contract law. She was an avid reader, writer, gardener, animal lover and a beautiful pianist. She was devoted to her daughter Anna, born in 1992. Martha suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2000. With great determination and with the help of her daughter, parents and excellent medical care, Martha made a remarkable recovery and was able to live independently. She was as quick-witted as ever and was always ready with a wry observation. She enjoyed a good debate and those who took her on would find her legal training to be very much intact. Her daughter was of tremendous assistance to her, while juggling university studies and work. Martha?s gentle spirit will be greatly missed. Family and friends thank the staff of the Neurovascular Unit of St. Michael?s Hospital, particularly Dr. Tucker for giving Martha time to watch Anna grow into a wonderful young woman and Dr. Spears for his expert care. Her caregivers, Pilar, Tukumbo and Marcella, all played a vital role in making Martha?s day to day life more comfortable and enjoyable. A commemoration of Martha?s life will be held in the near future. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Canada or St. Michael?s Hospital Foundation.
