Martti Kuuru

Surrounded by his loving family, Martti died peacefully on May 9, 2022 at North York General Hospital. He leaves behind his wife Shelley-Ann (Hughes) of 42 years, his 4 children Kristin (Pat), Eliisa (Brian), Kyle (Dana), and Ryan. Beloved Pappa of Katie, Raine, Liam and Quinn. He also leaves behind his sisters Pirkko-Liisa (Heikki) of Finland, and Paula (late Kevin) of Cookstown.

Martti was predeceased by his parents Eelis and Irja Kuuru, his in-laws Kenneth and Vivian Hughes, as well as his brother-in-law Kevin Hughes. Martti leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and many close friends that he talked to daily both in Canada and Finland.

Martti was born on February 5, 1955 in South Porcupine, Ontario. In 2019 he moved to Barrie, Ontario with his wife Shelley. He was a nurse for 25 years at Timmins and District Hospital, and was an avid member of St. John's Lutheran church in South Porcupine.

His faith played an important role on how he lived his life which was full of love, and care for all he met.

Martti will be greatly missed by his family. He was a kind, caring, funny, and humble man. He definitely had the gift of gab and loved to talk and tell stories to those he met. He also could be heard singing hymns, and songs everywhere he went.

In memory of Martti, donations can be made to North York General Hospital ICU or to Christ Church St. Judes, Ivy would be appreciated.
