Mary passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the age of 97.
Predeceased by her much loved husband Ernest (Ernie) and great granddaughter Eve. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be deeply missed by her children: Rachelle (Robert); Diane (Hugh); Alain (Denise) and Carolyn (Paul), her grandchildren: Stephen; Katrina; Isabela; Ana Clara; Finlay and Evelina, her great grandson Nikolas, and her brother Charles Gillis (Catherine).
Mary was born in Souris, Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Peter and Nellie Gillis. Her large, close-knit family included Maud, Elizabeth, Alice, Elmer, William, John, Theresa, Alan, Charles, Helen, Anne, Viola, Catherine, Margaret and Joseph. She was a sweet Aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Mary will also be remembered by many friends in Ottawa, Ontario and Ayer's Cliff, Quebec (where she lived for many years).
Fiercely independent, thoughtful and generous with remarkable energy, Mary had many passions and talents including gardening, knitting, quilting and sewing. She particularly enjoyed sharing her delicious baked goods with family and friends.
Family and friends may pay respect on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Cass Funeral Home, 900 Clough Street, Ayer's Cliff QC. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Cimetière St-Barthélemy following the funeral service. A reception lunch will also be served (details to follow).
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario who lovingly cared for Eve or to the Montfort Hospital who tenderly cared for Mary.
