SUNDAY, Mary Helen – with sadden hearts, the family of Mary Sunday (nee Mary Stark) announce her passing at the Dorothy Ley Hospice in Toronto on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer. Loving mother of Christina Sunday (Mark Kowaliszyn) and William Sunday (Jacqueline). Cherished grandmother of Jack Sunday. Dear sister of Ann Mathews (late Murray), Elizabeth Martin, the late Eva "Lily" Sunday (late Adam) and Kathy Morrison (Jim). Predeceased by parents Mathias and Mary Stark; her first husband, Peter Sunday and mother in law Mary Sunday. Sister in law to Tony Sunday (late Mary), Paul Sunday (Chris).
She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, family, friends and colleagues.
A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Welland and obtained a CTM (Certified Travel Manager), Toronto. After retiring she graduated from York University, Toronto with a BA honours double major. She was a proud retired employee of Air Canada where she served as Revenue Ticket Manager, Toronto Airport and CRA, Toronto. An avid reader and traveller, Mary loved flying, cruising, dancing, Trinidad Carnival, Toronto Caribana and dancing to soca, salsa and reggae music. Remembered for her many hat and cap collections and her loud, infectious laughter. She would think nothing of flying a great distance to spend an overnight visit to attend a special birthday, anniversary or party.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses who have cared for her during her treatment especially to Dr. Barbara Vari, Dr. Christine Brezden and Dr. Teodor Grantcharov. Special thanks also to all of the wonderful nurses, caregivers and volunteers at Dorothy Ley Hospice. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice (dlhospice.org) or to Onewalk, (onewalk.ca - search for team “Shake the Disease”) a charity 25km walk that Mary had been supporting for the last eight years benefiting the Princess Margaret Hospital.
