Melvin enlisted in the Canadian Forces on April 13, 1949 and served until November 1, 1973. Upon retiring from the Canadian Forces with a Honorable Discharge, Melvin continued on with skills that he had acquired while working with the Canadian Forces as a mechanic for Grey Goose Bus Lines in Brandon, Manitoba. He also enjoyed many years with friends and community at the Army Navy Air Force club in Brandon, Manitoba where he enjoyed his country music and dancing the night away.

In June of 2019, Melvin moved from Manitoba to Winchester, Ontario to live with his family. Our dad passed away peacefully at Winchester Memorial Hospital on January 15, 2021. He will be dearly missed and Forever in our hearts.
