Merven Stanley Kulon

November 23, 1952 — May 11, 2023

Burlington

Passed away peacefully on his own terms, with his family at his side, on May 11, 2023, at Credit Valley Hospital in his 71st year. Words cannot express the sorrow his death has left those who knew and loved him.

Merv was born on November 23, 1952, in Toronto to his parents Stanislaw and Anna (Koftun) Kulon. Raised alongside his sister Christine in Parkdale attending public and secondary school. Merv became a first-time father in 1984 to Deanne Kulon. On August 4, 1990, Merv married Teresa Kinghan at St. Christopher‘s in Burlington. They would welcome a son, Nicholas, in 1998. When not golfing or fishing, Merv and Teresa were inseparable. Family was important to Merv.

Merv was a unique individual who was never lost for words, facts to share or simply how he felt. He was loyal to a fault, always giving to family and friends without hesitation. One could say, crusty on the outside, soft within.

Fishing and golf were both equal passions. He would spend many hours fishing on Dollars Lake making lasting friendships and was a member of the Canadian Bass Anglers Federation. A special thank you to Rick Weatherill, his “fishing buddy,” for his support and friendship and John Jarema, his oldest and dearest childhood friend, who introduced him to the world of golf. In 2023, Merv celebrated 21 years of sobriety, an accomplished he was very proud of. Thank you for your steadfast loyalty to Merv and each other.

Merv leaves behind his best friend and soulmate, Teresa, to mourn his passing. A loving father and mentor to Deanne and Nicholas Kulon. A proud grandfather to Christina and Mason. Brother to Chris and her husband John Baranski who could always be relied upon. Uncle and great uncle to Lisa (Ben) Holmlund and their daughter Elia, and Denise Baranski. Merv will also be dearly missed by his brother-in-law, Gary Kinghan, niece, Kelly (Charles) Woelfle and their daughter Willow, sister-in-law, Cheryl (Rob Evers) Kinghan, and extended family both near and far. Those who were fortunate enough to know Merv will dearly miss his friendship.

Thank you to his team of doctors and nurses at Credit Valley Hospital Oncology Palliative for the care Merv received and the support and guidance given to his family.

In keeping with Merv's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society - Prostate Cancer - prevention, detection and treatment.
