Minda Mangallon Azachee, age 85, made her transition from cervical cancer on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on September 20, 1935 in Leyte, Philippines, a daughter to the late Froilan and Emeteria Mangallon. She was the eldest of seven children; two preceded her in death.
Minda was a devout Catholic and the beloved wife of Anatolio Azachee for 56 years. She was the loving mother to Maryanne Burchill, Shirley Azachee, Eileen Nelson and Edward Azachee, and the devoted grandmother to Cody and Kaitlyn Burchill, Joshua and Ashley Nelson, and Lauren Minhinnett.
Minda was the epitome of strength and sacrifice. She always gave of herself fully without expecting anything in return. She was truly the matriarch of our family and a great example of unconditional love. Minda was loyal to her core and always by Anatolio’s side. They were inseparable, whether it was a trip to the grocery store, or simply going to the gas station. They were always together.
Minda earned a B.Sc. in Nutrition and Fisheries, and held many corporate positions along the way. She loved to participate in many activities including ballroom dancing and the Philippine Choral Society of Mississauga. She also pioneered the circulation of the devotion to the Virgin of The Barangay in Ontario. Her favorite pastime was making Barbie costumes from around the world. She had a gift for sewing the most intricately designed doll costumes. Her attention to detail is truly unmatched.
Minda also had many collections. She loved to collect stamps, coins, paper money, plants, Barbies, beaded dolls, greeting cards, shells, medallions, rosaries, prayer cards, spoons, pencils, and match boxes. True story.
Minda will forever be remembered for her kindness, great advice, outstanding lumpia, Candy Crush, and most of all, her ability to make us laugh. She was often the funniest person in the room, unbeknownst to her. In other words, she didn’t always intend to be funny, it just came naturally.
Nothing can bring more joy to Minda than when we were all together enjoying one another’s company. Her family and friends were everything to her.
Her essence will continue to live on through the things she left behind and the memories we’ve made.
Minda was living proof of God’s love.
