Minoru “Mike” Yamashita passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Humber River Hospital in Toronto on January 5, 2022. He was 86.
Minoru was born in Stevenson, British Columbia, and raised in Wakayama Japan. He returned to Canada in 1951 to become a dedicated landscaper eventually settling in Toronto.
Minoru was the youngest son of Masashichi and Katsue; caring brother of Shigero, Sumie, Kazuyo and Eiji.
Minoru was a thoughtful husband to Haruhi, very proud father of David (Liz).
As a young man, he developed a love of fishing, playing cards and socializing within the Japanese Canadian Community. He spent his free time helping others, gardening, tidying, watching sports and laughing with friends and family. He was always interested in the lives of others, pleased to hear of successes, eager to assist when anyone needed a hand and delighted to share a joke.
Koden and flowers are gratefully declined, please consider donating to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Haruhi, David & Liz are most grateful to all the support given by so many family and friends over the years.
Minoru will be put to rest at Park Lawn Cemetery in Etobicoke. Due to Covid restrictions and respecting his wishes there are no plans for a service. To honour him please take a walk in nature and reflect on what he meant to you.
