Mona Khatib passed away on September 14, 2018 peacefully in her sleep. Mona was 71 years young. Born in Lebanon on June 25, 1947, she was the loving sister of Seif Khatib and Samir Khatib, and daughter of Mounira Houri and Khalil Khatib. She studied at Souk el Gharb College, and later worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Beirut.
Mona moved to Sharjah, UAE, following her brother Seif, where she discovered a freedom she had longed for and used it to travel the world. And that she did! Mona was a hard worker and fast learner, and worked in administrative and accounting positions, including at Dantziguian Est., gaining increasing responsibility.
Mona relocated one last time to Toronto, Canada in 1989, where she made it her final home. Mona loved living in Canada and the life she had, and was a proud Canadian. Her first job in Toronto was at Adelaide Bilingual Personnel Services Ltd.
Mona greatly enjoyed her daily swims in the condo pool, and was a lover of Lebanese food, especially warm and crispy falafel. She cherished her two Siamese cats, Minou I and Minou II, who each lived with her for 18 years.
Mona leaves behind a great group of many friends who became more than just family to her. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins around the world who will all miss her very, very much.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 11 am, at Westminster Cemetery (5830 Bathurst St, North York, ON M2R 1Y6).
Those who wish to do so are invited to donate to the Lung Association – Ontario, or to the Toronto Cat Rescue in Mona’s memory.
