Murray Patrick O'Byrne died peacefully Friday, July 15 in the Acute Care of theElderly Unit of the Queensway CarletonHospital. He was 81, born March 10,1941. Murray is the son of the late Norman Patrick O'Byrne and Virginia Grace O'Byrne (Hooper). He is survived by three sons, Michael of Toronto, David from Ottawa, and Patrick of Ottawa, two step-sons, James of Ottawa and Matthew of Ottawa, two grandsons Sean of Gatineau and Kevin of Gatineau, and two brothers, Bill (Yvonne) of Peterborough and Terry (Beatrice) of Chelsea, QC. He had nephews, a niece, and cousins in the O'Byrne, Murphy, and Nash families.
During his final years, Murray resided at Garden Terrace, Kanata, a long termcare facility. They offered exemplary assistance that gave him a comfortable quality of life. Murray proudly took onthe responsibilities of President of Garden Terrace's Residence Council. During that period, he developed a close relationship with Rachael King, Life Enrichment Coordinator at Garden Terrace. Murray was an ardent sports fan. He was a particularly enthusiastic fan of the Ottawa Senators, never missing an opportunity to watch and cheer them on. He was quiet with his praise but was very proud of the accomplishments of his family. Special thanks to Sharon O'Byrne, who was forever supportive. We want to thank the staff of GardenTerrace Home for their compassion and care to Murray during his time there. You made a difference. We would also like to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, specifically the team of doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department and the palliative care team that provided comfort and care to Murray and the family. A private family service will be held at Notre Dame Cemetery. Masks are not mandatory, but encouraged.
Memorial Donations may be made in his honour to Diabetes Canada.
