Nancy Joyce (Wright) Betts

August 29, 1938 — November 22, 2022

Mississauga

Nancy Joyce Betts, 84 years of age, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022, at Credit Valley Hospital.

Born August 29th, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario to the late Kenneth and Bertha Wright. She was the youngest of four children (Harold, Doris, and Barb) who preceded her in death. Nancy married the late Harvey Franklin Betts July 16th, 1960. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Todd (Liz), Dean (Jackie), Casey (Irene) and Sandra (Trevor) and her Grandchildren, Sistine and Ashiyana, Greir and Madden, Michael and Abby and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Many people would say they have the best Mom in the world. But I know WE did. Our Mom sacrificed her promising career to raise us. Remembering all that she has done for us is easy, but to share them all with others would take a lifetime.

She loved to travel (Dubai, Hong Kong, Bali, Muskoka), Japanese Maple trees, Buddhas, watching food videos, people watching at the mall, going thrift shopping at flee markets/garage sales, and the Dollarstore. She was a “people person” and loved hearing stories from all sorts of people, especially individuals from other parts of the world.

Some of our favourite memories with her include going to CNE for ice cream sandwiches, our time at the cottage, her last rollercoaster ride, tucking us into bed and stroking foreheads to help us sleep, and going on country drives. She became Nana when her grandchildren were born with some of them giving her the nickname “Nana Mints” because she seemed to always have them.

Our Mom did not live for herself, she lived vicariously through all of us. She was always one of the loudest, most supportive parents at all our activities and was there for us through many life-changing events. Our Mom went back to work at the grocery store bakery and Tim Horton’s to support the family to ensure we had as much as we could. If we were happy and healthy, she was happy. Mom, we want to let you know you raised us well. We are ever so grateful to have a mom like you. The best Mom in the whole wide world. Not only to us but whoever needed a “mom”.

Thank-you to the Palliative Care team of Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga and all the PSW’s, nurses and coordinators that assisted her over the past year. She was known as a “Little Firecracker” and others thought of her as their “other Mother”.

A celebration of Nancy’s life can be made by donating to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or planting of a tree.
