On November 25, 2021, after living with cancer for more than a year, our mum Naomi Pauline Grew of Ottawa, Ontario quietly passed away with us at her side. Born on May 17, 1938, in Stanley, NB, the daughter of the late Guy and Alice (Foreman) Flynn and partner of more than twenty-five years, the late Alex Picard of Ryanville, PQ.
Mum grew up in Stanley, NB attending Stanley Consolidated High School. She trained at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital for Practical Nurses in Chatham, NB at the early age of 18 and began caring for those in hospital and nursing homes a year later. She married our dad, Ralph Grew and moved to live in Saint John, NB until 1969. In 1972, Mum relocated with us three kids and her second husband Colter Pugh to Cross Creek, NB where she lived until moving to Fredericton and eventually Ottawa in 1987. She met Alex in 1992 and together they shared the good times of each other’s families and friends.
Mum is also predeceased by her youngest sister Ellen-Anne, her older brothers James and Jack, her sister-in-laws Jeanne (Jack) and Sharon (Patrick). Mum is survived by her three children Corinne Braam, Patrick (Nancy), Theresa O’Hara (Laurie), her sisters Deborah (Danny), Constance (Gary), her brothers, Patrick, Carney (Dorothy), sister-in-law Charlotte (James) and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sincere appreciation to Mum’s very special care giver, Dr. Andrew Douglas of The Ottawa General Hospital Palliative Care team, to Karen and Rhonda from Home and Community Care Support Services Champlain, and the many PSWs, nurses and support staff of the Bayshore Health Team. A particular thank you to our most regular nurse Emily and our night nurse Carla as well to the caring and supportive staff at the Residence Corporation serving the Ottawa Hospital Community.
There will be a service held in New Brunswick at a date later in the Spring.
Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
