Nelson Lamoureux

June 20, 1938 — March 7, 2025

Nelson Lamoureux, son of the late Horace and Audrey (Shipman) Lamoureux, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Montfort Hospital with his children by his side. He was born on June 20, 1938, in Ottawa.

Nelson is survived by his daughter Kimberley (Scott), his sons Ted and Derek (Julie) and his grandchildren, Kathryn, Becky, Duncan, Liam, Nickey, Elizabeth, and Blake. He is also mourned by his sisters, Sandra (the late Nelson James) and Carolyn (Harold), as well as his brothers, Trevor (Annick), Mason (Donna), and Robert (Angela), along with many nieces and nephews. Nelson was predeceased by his brothers Jack, Billy (the late Mary), Barry, Albert (the late Jean), Donald (the late Diane), and his sister, Deborah (married to George).

Nelson's warmth was a constant source of comfort and joy to those around him. His talent for humour, often pushing the boundaries of appropriateness, never failed to catch us off guard and evoke genuine laughter. His exceptional numerical and logistical skills were equally impressive, allowing him to effortlessly recall phone numbers from 60 years ago and remember combinations for long-forgotten locks. Nelson's resilience was unwavering despite his underlying health conditions, known to only a few. He faced each day with a warm smile, handling his discomfort with grace and a remarkable lack of complaints.

Nelson will be remembered for his 25 years at Revenue Canada in the Customs and Excise Department before transitioning to the paralegal field, where he retired at the remarkable age of 84. He also served his country as a reservist in the 30th Field Artillery Reserve Regiment for 25 years.

A celebration of this legend will be held at a later date with a small graveside memorial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Fighting Blindness in Canada (AMD), Montfort Hospital or The Royal Canadian Legion.
