Romyn, Nita Mary (née Johnston)- Entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019 at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus after complications from a fall. Nita died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 years.
She was preceded by her beloved husband and companion, John, in 1998. She leaves her daughter, Arleigh Romyn (Liam Jerusalem) of Ottawa and devoted grandchildren Aiden and Nicholas Jerusalem. Sister of Margaret Elliott (late Ken) of Ottawa, (late) John Johnston of Barrie and Claire McGuire (late Philip) of Sault Ste Marie. Special aunt and great aunt of nieces and nephews in Canada, the Netherlands and the United States.
Nita was born in Nakina, Ontario where her father worked on the CN line. She graduated North Bay Normal School in 1951 and began her teaching career in Cobalt, Ontario. Teaching took her from Carlisle to Kapuskasing to Hornepayne before she settled in Sault Ste Marie.
After marriage and motherhood she retired from teaching and entered a new phase of life. She was active in her parish, was part of multiple bridge clubs and volunteered with many charitable organizations. After John retired, they had an active social life and loved to travel – he drove and she navigated.
In 2016, she moved to Ottawa to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was promptly added to Margaret's Monday afternoon bridge group. She loved her time at The Ravines Seniors Suites and made many friends in her short time in her new city.
Visitation at Hope Cemetery (4660 Bank Street, 613-822-1212) on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 1-2, immediately followed by a Funeral Mass and reception.
A memorial service will be held in Sault Ste Marie at a later time.
Memorial donations to the Group Health Centre Trust Fund, the Algoma Community Residential Hospice or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family
