Norm Nixon

February 9, 1958 — November 27, 2019

Loved deeply and was deeply loved.
Norm died peacefully with his family by his side on November 27 at the age of 61.
Son of the late Peter and Mabel Nixon, Norm was born February 9, 1958 in Kingston, Ontario and spent his life in Ottawa. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He loved dogs, books, and motorcycles. Norm is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 38 years Heather and children Jen (Tim), Dan (Jenny), and Elaine. He will be missed by his grandchildren Hanna, Abby, Mia, Cameron, and Keira as well as long time, dear friends Barry and Sharon. Hank and Goose will miss his gentle pats and many treats.
Norm was full of gratitude every day. He appreciated all that he had, and that life had to offer and did his best to not be brought down by the challenges he faced with his diagnosis of brain cancer in March 2016 and his recent diagnosis of late stage colon cancer in August 2019. He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. Norm could best be described as a toasted marshmallow - a little tough and crusty on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside.
He will be greatly missed by extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr Nicholas and Dr Fantaneau of TOH for their exceptional care, kindness and support over the last three and a half years; to personal trainer Ryan Armitage of the Soloway JCC for his camaraderie and ability to work with Norm and challenge him on a weekly basis; to the numerous nurses and support staff of the Champlain LIHN who helped Norm remain at home as long as he could and to Dr McKinnon and the May Court Hospice staff who enabled Norm to have a good death.
Please join us for a celebration of Norm's life at St. Stefan Banquet and Event Centre, 1989 Prince of Wales Dr, on Thursday, December 5, from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
