Orville Glen Abbott, 64, of Ottawa, ON, succumbed to pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his family on October 7, 2013.
Glen is survived by his wife Loretta of 45 years, daughter Kenzie (David) Abbott, son Richard (Helen) Abbott, father Oscar Abbott, brothers Chris (Marla) Abbott and Curt (Ellen) Abbott, sisters Janice (Chris) Marshall, Julie (Dave) Sheppard, Jeanne (Steve) Colbourne, Joanne Abbott and Suzanne Abbott, and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Glen was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
Glen loved flying which led to his enrolment in the Canadian Air Force at the age of 17 (January 1967) where he remained for 42 years. He retired in July, 2009 with the rank of Captain. After his retirement he moved back to Ottawa to be with his son and grandchildren. Glen lived for his grandchildren and loved them dearly.
He was a lovely, kind, warm and funny man: welcoming, patient and a pleasure to be around. He was a real support for the family, but in an understated and not at all overbearing way.
A special thank you to the Champlain Community Care Access Center, Carefor, and the Queensway Carleton Hospital Cancer Centre, and especially to Glen’s family doctor, Doctor Yazdani for their loving care and support.
Glen has donated his body to the University of Ottawa for research purposes. There will be no formal funeral at this time however the University will have a memorial and dedicate a plaque at some time in the future.
An informal memorial will be held at the family home from 1:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday October 10, 2013. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
