Otto Jan Havelka

July 14, 1931 — March 18, 2023

Toronto

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Otto J. Havelka on March 18, 2023. He left us peacefully of natural causes at the age of 91. He leaves behind his younger brother John, his nieces Susane and Carrie, their husbands Walter and Mark, and many great nephews and nieces, Jean-Nicolas, Jean-Sebastien, Morgane, Olivier, Adrien and Camille. If he could only know how important he was in our lives. He was an original and brilliant man who seemed content if not happy with the smallest of things —a good meal, a good laugh or a good story or even just a photo. He was himself a wonderful story teller, jazz lover and was a huge part of the lives of his family often spent at the lake in the Laurentians. His love of this special place was undeniable. It was the only place he always looked forward to come to each summer. He preferred to stay in the boathouse because it was closest to the lake. For those who knew him, he was a genuinely brilliant mind with a perfect memory and lots of fun at parties. He could recall details from before the war like if they had happened just yesterday. He could no longer hear, nor could he walk but he still smiled. We love you Otto! So many wonderful memories to thank you for. May you rest in peace.
