Died on December 26th surrounded by her family in her home in Toronto.
Pattie was born in Bogotá, Colombia on May 18th, 1948. Pattie and her sister Roberta were raised by her American mother, Canadian father and beloved Colombian nanny Mimi Vazquez.
The family moved to the United States and Pattie later moved to Canada in 1966 to attend Queen's University. After graduating Pattie worked in the criminal justice system, taught dance and travelled.
Her professional life changed when she made her first stained class piece. She found the creative process pure magic. That was the start of a more than 30-year career as a stained and appliqué glass artist. Beginning in 1980 Pattie apprenticed with internationally renowned stained glass artist Stephen Belanger-Taylor. Pattie's work can be found in churches, homes and public buildings in, around and beyond Toronto. She expressed her vision through the use of color and light as elements for the transformation of space using both sculptural form and architectural environments.
Pattie also had great love outside of glass. She had her first date with Paul Copeland on February 8th, 1982. They spent the rest of their lives together. As a stepmother to Paul's three school age children, Daniel, Jeremy and Lia, she helped her new family fall in love with her passion for international travel.
Pattie will be greatly missed by her spouse Paul Copeland, and family, Daniel, Jeremy and his wife Anna Wieselgren, Lia, and step-grandaughter Cara. As well as by her sister Roberta Walker and family, Sandy, Magill and Madeleine Foote, and her many friends who were an extended family to Pattie.
A memorial will be held for Pattie in the coming months.
