Patricia (Pat) Gaines has been living comfortably at the IOOF long term care home since February 2016, following her stroke in September 2015. Her daughter Christina has been living with a family registered with Social Services, since 2016. Both Pat and Christina have been very very comfortable and contented, with all of their needs being met, in their respective homes.
Pat’s son Kevin lives with his girlfriend Nikki, in Scarborough. Pat’s husband, Ed Gaines, died unexpectedly of a heart attack, in 2016, at the IOOF. His celebration of life was held in January of 2017.
Pat’s own health deteriorated recently, just after Christmas, not related to Covid or flu. She was admitted to hospital on January 3, and she was transferred to ICU where she later died, on January 4, 2023, due to complications of her diabetes.
Her passing is unexpected, and it brings sadness to all who knew and loved her. Her caregivers at the IOOF are devastated in losing Pat—she was always the joy-bringer and the bright spot in their workplace. They loved her like family.
Please hold Christina and Kevin, and the IOOF staff in your prayers as they come to terms with their loss. Pat was a long-time member of Central United Church and she loved to sing in the choir. Her signature solo song was “One day at a time”. She is currently a member of Burton Avenue United Church and she had been able to regularly attend services independently, (until the Covid Pandemic!) utilizing the Barrie taxi wheelchair taxi service.
Pat had a heart of gold, and an inborn joie de vivre. May she know joy and peace and love, now and evermore. She is with Jesus now—she is finally home. May she join heaven’s choir, and sing once again with joy. Amen.
