Patrick Rene Cardy
October 15, 1957 – June 16, 2017
Husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many; Patrick was a big influence to and touched the lives of many people, family or not. He was always looking to help improve the lives of others, whether it was with words of encouragement or lending an ear to listen, coaching sports (his favourite being his daughter’s softball team), offering second chances to those in need, comedic relief, or playing pranks… He had a way with people.
Although he could be stubborn and headstrong, it was this quality of his personality that allowed him to endure many more years than expected as his spinal disease advanced, causing progressive disability. Patrick always strove to maintain his independence, and he had a very strong work ethic as many of his co-workers, past and present, can attest. He was a fighter and a protector, and he maintained this constitution up until the end of his life.
He spent his final days in palliative care at Victoria Hospital. It was his wish to pass peacefully without many visitors at his bedside; however, his daughter Coralie, and wife Christine kept watch over him to ensure his comfort and peace; and immediate family members were able to come and pay their respects. He passed peacefully and quietly just before 10 a.m. on Friday, June 16.
As there will not be any formal service open to the public, we have created this memorial page as a space to share fond memories, thoughts, condolences, and/or pictures for those who knew Patrick. We know that he touched many lives, and as such, it is impossible to reach out to everyone, so please share this link far and wide so that we may remember and honour Patrick’s life.
