Paul Leo Breton

The family of Paul Leo Breton are saddened to announce that he passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2024 at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie.

Paul’s wife Shirley preceded him in death just over a year ago. He is survived by his daughters Susan Rudd (Al) and Dianne Pegg (Wes) and his grandchildren Phillip, Aaron and Sarah.

Paul was born in Roquemaure, Abitibi, Quebec, the son of Ludivine Royer and Wilfred Breton. His childhood was not easy, but Paul often spoke fondly about memories of his family, living near the Thompson River, and the beauty of Northern Quebec. It was here that his love for the outdoors, animals, birds and fishing was born.

Paul was a Jack of all trades and was determined to learn something new with every experience. He possessed a sharp mind and thought of inventive ways to fix things and solve problems. Paul’s one regret was not finishing school because it meant he missed out on some great opportunities. He loved working with his hands and spent the last 20 years of his career as a Heavy Machine Mechanic for the automotive parts industry.

Paul also had an artistic side and was an accomplished photographer. He was self-taught and was developing and hand-colouring his own photos before colour film was widely available. He began his own photography business to earn extra money in his spare time.

Paul took great pride in his accomplishments and the life he was able to provide for himself and his family.

Paul and Shirley were married for over 63 years. She was the love of his life. Together they raised their two daughters and made a life in Brampton where they lived for many years. They enjoyed many memorable family vacations, but a trip down east to Nova Scotia was the highlight of every summer.

Paul and Shirley were fortunate to be able to purchase their dream home in Durham, Ontario. They were blessed with almost 30 years there enjoying a quiet rural life with their cats and their wildlife friends. Paul was never more at home than when he was out on his fifty-acres!

Anyone who knew Paul knows that he loved nothing better than a good chat. He could be quite opinionated, but no topic was off the table for discussion. He especially loved to talk politics and would strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

 We will miss his chats.

Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In respect of Paul’s final wishes, cremation has taken place.
