Paul Mark Devlin (1968 - 2017)
With great sadness, the Devlin family announces the death of Paul Mark Devlin on May 4th, 2017 at Central West Hospice, Ottawa, after a courageous and faith-filled battle with cancer. His life is now truly beginning.
He was born on July 6th, 1968 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, son of John and Leah Devlin. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Jane Keenan, and their children: Anna, Keegan, Ronan and Sarah. He is survived also by his parents, his sister Mary Ellen (Ted) Reeler of Ottawa, brother Jake (Karen) Devlin of Kamloops, B.C., and brother Bruce Devlin of Fredericton, as well as a large extended family.
Paul had an entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated his own sporting goods store, the Nearly New Shop, for over a decade. In 2001, he and Jane moved from Fredericton to Ottawa where he became a dedicated stay-at-home dad for their growing family. Paul developed a keen interest for sports and motorcycles which he passed on to his children.
Throughout his life, Paul always chose to work quietly and methodically in the background. His priority in life was his wife and his four children, fuelled by his commitment to, and love for, God. He passed on his passion for science and machines to his children and also taught them to love and serve God by the way he lived out his vocation every day.
Even while suffering, he understood the weight of his responsibility to make the most of every moment God gave him, offering it up for the good of others. He never let his suffering go to waste.
Our family's journey with Paul's cancer treatment revealed many unexpected blessings through generous people. We would like to thank our family, friends, co-workers, the Maryvale Academy community, and numerous health-care professionals for their compassionate care and support over the past six years.
