Paul Florence

May 25, 1946 — April 14, 2021

We are deeply saddened to report the death of Paul Florence, on April 14, 2021, after a year-long battle with cancer. He died at home in Ottawa, surrounded by family, one month before his 75th birthday.

Much-loved son of Eileen and Paul Florence SR, Paul was born and raised in the Montreal area, and was based there for most of his Air Canada career. It was at Pointe Claire’s St. Thomas High School that he met Donna Chartier, his lifelong partner. An only child, Paul at first found visits to the lively Chartier home, with Donna’s parents and six younger siblings, a little overwhelming. It wasn’t long before he was part of the gang and all will miss him very much.

Paul was the loving father of Christopher, who inherited his love of aviation, and he had a special bond with his daughter-in-law Boutaina. Paul adored his two granddaughters, Sophia and Leena.

Paul spent every possible moment at the cottage in the Laurentians with Donna. It was his piece of heaven. He so enjoyed inventing some ingenious way to fix a problem and was known for helping friends and neighbours. Mornings found him feeding the fish with his granddaughters, evenings he could be seen out on the lake, letting his boat drift, watching the sunset and nights, pointing out the stars, planets and the International Space Station.

Paul was a very loyal, good-hearted man, and so he had many lifelong friends. He really appreciated every single phone call and check-in during this past year. Thank you so much.
