Peter died peacefully surrounded and comforted by his children after a long illness. Loving and proud father of Louise (Scott), Pierre (Nancy), Michel (Vanessa) and Nicole (Trevor). Peter is predeceased by his supportive partner and love of his life for over 40 years Margaret Gallow and her son Mitchell. Stepfather to Michael (Jill), Mark (Theresa), Kim, Kelly and Karry (Tony). He was called Grandpa Pete and Pop-pop to his 15 grandchildren who he adored and always found time to celebrate special moments with. Peter will be missed by his surviving siblings Kelly, John, Josephine and Martha. He is predeceased by his brother Chris and parents Harold Crichton and Florence (Pat) Kelly.
Peter graduated from St Patrick’s College - University of Ottawa class of ‘65 where he earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. He worked as a public servant with the Ministry of Community and Social Services in both Ottawa and Toronto. He was a leader in many an intervention and program based on social work principles. Peter was a tireless advocate working on the front lines, as a manager and as a consultant with not for profit agencies and health institutions in supporting and improving the lives of vulnerable individuals and families.
Peter was a long time resident of Horseshoe Valley, Barrie Ontario. Peter cherished time spent with family and friends. He always welcomed all to join in the many celebrations up at Horseshoe. He had a passion for golf, loved a good debate and had a great sense of humor. Peter always had fond memories of Constance Bay where he spent many summers as a boy and would return regularly for family reunions as an adult. In more recent years, Peter called Ottawa home where he spent time with his children and grand-kids. He had a kind and compassionate spirit and had a unique ability to engage all he met in meaningful discussions. He had a captivating presence when speaking and was a loyal friend and confidant to all. We will miss his many stories and wisdom. Dad gave his kids the gifts of tolerance, acceptance, forgiveness and the importance of celebrating family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to a local charity of your choice. Finally, we ask that all who knew Peter raise a glass and remember the good times you shared with him in his honor. Let us remember Peter as a caring, passionate and gentle giant with love.
