Pethro Alleyne

Pethro, lovingly known as “Pet” Alleyne was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She left this world after a long battle with dementia on February 20, 2021 at the age of 78.

She was born in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica to Rachel and Fitz McBean on July 29, 1942.

She was the third born child of her siblings Violet, Ruth, Fitz and Rupert McBean.  Growing up she had a liking for numbers which lead her to work for the Ministry of Education in Jamaica as a bookkeeper.

She left Jamaica to go to the United States for a short while and then immigrated to Canada in 1971.

In Canada she worked at Steadman’s as a bookkeeper for 16 years and then went ont work at Toronto Western Hospital as a Clerk until she retired.

While in Canada she met her husband Arnel Alleyne and had 2 children: Monique and Karen.

Pethro is known for her love of all things fashion and knew how to put an outfit together.  She was an amazing cook and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious Jamaican meals for her family.  She was actively involved in church and her church family especially loved her vegetarian chunks and festivals she would bring to different church functions.  She was a caring person who put others before herself.  Most weekends were spent as a volunteer at prison ministries.

Pethro is survived by her husband Arnel and two children Monique and Karen and her son-in-law Yuri four grandchildren Marcus, Delayah, Josiah and Anayah; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 11am at Agape Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1999 Fairport Rd, Pickering, Ontario.
