Phyllis Bernadette Bernie

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Phyllis Bernadette Bernie (nee O'Malley) on April 20, 2025 at the age of 90 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Phyllis, a devout Jehovah's Witness was known and loved by many within her community, both in Ontario and in British Columbia where she lived from 1978 to 2007 before returning home to Ontario to live out her last years.

She was a loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed proudly displaying to all her visitors her ever growing family, spread across Canada.

Beloved wife of the late Martin Bernie (d. 1963), widowed at the age of 29, she courageously raised 6 children. Survived by her sons Donald (Kim Fournier), John (Megan Luke), Richard, Michael (Doris Prevost) and daughter Barbara (Steve Woodman), 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Predeceased by son Joseph (d. 2015) and granddaughter Danielle (d. 1983).

Phyllis was born in Barry's Bay, Ontario into a large family to the late Thomas and Barbara O'Malley surprising them on their 7th Anniversary. Their first daughter. Dear sister of Loretta (Murray) and late Ellen (Law), brothers Joseph, late John, late Alfred, late Jerry, late Robert and late Patrick.

We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at the Extendicare Medex for their compassion and kindness during our mother's illness. 

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on May 17, 2025 at 3:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1250 Caron Street, Rockland, Ontario. For zoom co-ordinates, please make a request to bernie_mike@hotmail.com
