It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Pierre in his 71st year.
Beloved husband and best friend of Claire Whalen for 37 years. His love and his memory will be forever held in Claire's heart.
Pierre will also be greatly missed by his sons Christopher Parent and Shawn Parent (Ashley Irving).
He is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle Parent as well as his siblings Marc, Marie (François Lapointe), Benôit (Sylvie Pichette), Lyne, and Yves (Jayanti Dunn).
Pierre was uncle to 7 wonderful neices and nephews - Tanya, Eric, Brigitte, Sheena, Michelle, Patrick, and Charles.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Eugene Parent and Rita Sauvé, as well as his brothers Stephane and Marcel.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Pierre's early adult years were spent practicing and teaching Transcendental Meditation and participating in advanced courses in Europe. At age 29 he settled into a career with the Federal Public Service of Canada where he worked for 31 years. After retiring in 2012, he and Claire enjoyed travelling in Canada and the United States as well as hiking in the Gatineau Hills. A couple of his favourite places were the town of Gananoque and Charleston Lake. Having been taught to row in his early years by his dear grandfather, Joachim Sauvé, he continued to love rowing or canoeing whenever he had the chance.
Pierre was also a student of Siddha Yoga and spent many summer vacations at the Ashram in So. Fallsburg, N.Y. with Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. He thoroughly enjoyed the practices of chanting, meditation and seva (selfless service).
His greatest talent and favourite hobby was playing the piano. He loved many kinds of music and would go from just fooling around to playing complex classical pieces. It was a great joy to hear him play!
A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled for this summer and details will be announced at a later date.
