Monidi or Dima as she was affectionately known, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the age of 87.
She was sadly predeceased by her husband Ganga Prasad Banerji after 62 years of marriage, and by her beloved grandson Nathan - but lovingly survived by her children Anand, Anna and Sunand (Lucy) and grandchildren Sierra and Mikayel.
In 1960 at time of marriage, Prabhati was like an Indian Rapunzel princess with long flowing hair down to her knees, which was worn like a lion’s mane. On her 65th birthday, in an act of liberation, she chose to cut her hair short, and she said to “free herself from society’s expectations.”
Prabhati was known for her selflessness. She fed friends and family love and affection through her famous cooking, even surreptitiously feeding Coco and Amber (our dogs) forbidden food when no one was looking (chupi chupi). Even in her final days, she never lost her sense of humour.
Pabhati was thankful for her many care givers especially Denise, and appreciated the many people who reciprocated her love of life.
Her final request was to have her ashes spread in the lake with her beloved husband and grandson.
We will have a celebration of her life in the spring.
