DR. RAMA RAO KATTARI MD, MBBS, LMSSA, RCPSC, MRCP (I), FRCP (C) September 15, 1942 - October 2, 2018
Ottawa, ON – On October 2, 2018, God called His precious son, Dr. Rama Rao Kattari, to Heaven. Eldest son of Late Rosiah & Late Nagamma Kattari. Proud husband of 50 years to his beloved, Anitha; Loving father to: Arathi, Haritha (Robert), Anupama (James), and Nirupama (Adam); Adoring grandfather to: Arabella, Tristan, and Aryanna Vicars and Aaron.
Born in the impoverished village of Mandapadu in India, young Rama Rao was determined to become a doctor. Dr. Kattari's lifelong love of higher learning, allowed him to attain his qualifications from some of the most reputable institutions in India, Ireland, England and the United States. He worked in nearly 30 hospitals throughout his career. After completing his medical degree in 1969, Dr. Kattari began his career in the India Railway Hospital. In 1973, he moved his family to Ireland and he was very proud to have brought his family to Canada in 1985. Following his retirement from Region 7 Hospital, Miramichi, NB in 2006, he and Anitha moved to Moncton, NB until 2016 when they relocated to Ottawa, ON.
Despite many obstacles, Dr. Kattari dedicated his life to helping others. As a Specialist in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Gastroenterology, Dr. Kattari selflessly, provided food, shelter, health, and most importantly, education to people all around the world. In 1995, Dr. & Mrs. Kattari founded the charity, Miramichi Cares. This charity brought infrastructure, housing, clean water, and a secular community centre to his native village. In appreciation for the support received, Dr. & Mrs. Kattari named this area "[Little] Miramichi." Today, Miramichi Cares continues enhance local healthcare, in New Brunswick, through the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation.
Dr. Kattari loved saving lives, learning, teaching, seeing others succeed, traveling the world, playing tennis, playing cards with friends, gardening. He especially loved the noise of family being home, Anitha’s cooking, and being a "Thattayya" (Grandfather.) At age 60, Dr. Kattari discovered a passion for golf. His most notable golf stories are from St. Andrews; Pebble Beach, South Africa, Dubai, and the numerous occasions he spent with the legendary Arnold Palmer.
Dr. Kattari was a quiet and incredibly humble man who believed that you can accomplish anything, in life, by working hard, working smart, and by respecting one another. He will be dearly missed by his loving family, adoring friends, and cherished colleagues around the world. In lieu of flowers, The Kattari Family graciously requests to simply perform selfless acts of kindness and respect.
