RAY TAVINER – (RCAF ret'd)
September 16, 1927 - May 25, 2016. Much beloved husband of Bernice. Loving father to Karen Delemere (Paul) and Robin (Karen). Cherished Grandfather to Brendan (Britni) and Stephen (Laura). Adoring Great-grandfather to Keira. Fondly missed by his nephews Barry, Donald, David, Bob Jr. and his niece Linda. Predeceased by his twin brother Bob (Doris).
A proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for 27 years, Ray served in Ontario and Quebec, with overseas tours in England, France, and The Netherlands (as part of NATO). He also served with a U.N. Peacekeeping Mission in Egypt from 1959 - 1960. After his retirement from the military Ray practiced industrial/commercial real estate appraisal for several years. He returned to the military (Reserve Forces) at the recruitment center in Toronto, before administering pensions for the Federal Government.
Ray was a lover of music, playing both trumpet and piano. At age nine he played in the Toronto Metropolitan Boys' Trumpet Band. He was a member of the Eastern Ontario Symphony Orchestra for many years as well as playing trumpet in the RCAF Band at CFB Trenton. Ray enjoyed a good round of golf, although he readily admitted his inadequacies at the game. He was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and attended the franchise opening game in 1977. Ray had an incredible mind for card games and he (and his partner) were the NATO Duplicate Bridge Champions several times. He was also an avid crossword puzzler and enjoyed seeing how fast he could solve the daily Jumble Puzzle.
Family came first to Ray, always thinking of them before himself. His friends were very dear to him and he was always willing to offer them an unsolicited helping hand. Ray will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 10th at 1350 York Mills Road, Toronto, followed by a Celebration of Ray's Life at 2:00 pm.
