We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Regina, at the tender age of 77, at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) on Saturday, November 4, 2023, after a brief illness.
Regina was a former longtime resident of Petawawa, she moved to Ottawa in 2020 to be close to her family. She became a legend at her former employer, Nick’s Chicken House, as a cook, in Pembroke, for 23 years until her retirement, in 2011.
Regina is predeceased by her parents, Jonas and Vera Astra and a brother, Duke.
She is survived by her beloved son, Eric (Dee Dee), brother, John (LouAnne) and sister, Veronica.
Gramma to Shallen (Curtis), Shelley (Carol), John Ross (Michelle)
Great gramma to Tristan, Rylee, Jayce and Brynn.
Auntie Gina to Steven, Christopher, Ryan, Shannon, Stephanie and Jennifer. Special great auntie to Abby.
A very special “Mom” to Ken Gallen.
Ma was a sports enthusiast who loved her Ottawa Senators. In her prime, she loved bowling, playing darts, and was a fabulous ball player, she couldn’t run well, but had finesse as a pitcher.
She loved watching movies (horror, being her favourite) and listening to music but thoroughly enjoyed watching “Y&R”, her favourite soap opera.
When she was first introduced to an iPhone and iPad, she joined the modern world of technology with some reservations. She was “old school”.
Ma was an artist in her own right, as she found solace in drawing and colouring. Solitaire and Yahtzee were another pastime she enjoyed.
Ma was a strong, resilient and very independent woman who worked hard throughout her lifetime. She was always there for her family and lent a helping hand to anyone in need. She will always be remembered for her storytelling, sense of humour and quick wit.
A very special thank you to the doctors and nurses of 6th floor east of the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) for their compassion and care.
“As your son, I couldn’t have been prouder of having you as my Ma, I will always cherish the fond moments and memories we made along the way.
I wish I could fly up to Heaven and bring you home where you belong”.
Your loving sweet, sweet boy.
In memory of Ma, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or the Arthritis Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
As per Ma’s wishes, cremation has already taken place, interment will take place at St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 2:00pm.
